Assim, na primeira etapa, o seu cérebro vai se conectar e associar as palavras.

Já na segunda etapa, você vai conseguir ligá-las ao que ouviu e associar com maior assertividade, praticando sua pronúncia e sua audição ao mesmo tempo.

Na terceira etapa, você coloca em prática tudo que acabou de treinar, pois a prática leva a à perfeição.

31. Going out for lunch

Audrey and Mary, two coworkers, are thinking about going out for lunch today, but they don’t know where to go. Audrey proposed a new sushi restaurant, but Mary is not fan of seafood. She proposed instead to go to an Italian place, but Audrey had some pastas yesterday for dinner, so she would like something different. Unsure about what to do, the two girls decide to look in the local newspaper to see if there is any deal. Luckily, there was one interesting deal. There was a restaurant offering a “two for one” lunch. Basically, if they were paying for one lunch, they would get one free. Excited by the idea, the two girls choose to go to this place. Audrey had salmon and Mary had pizza. The food was delicious! Everything was going perfectly, until it was time to pay. When they see the bill, they think there must be a mistake. It was more expensive than supposed to. When Audrey asked the waiter about the free lunch deal, he simply replied: “there’s no such thing as free lunch”. Confused, the two coworkers paid the total amount of the bill and left.

31. Saindo para o almoço

Audrey e Mary, duas colegas de trabalho, estão pensando em sair para almoçar hoje, mas não sabem para onde ir. Audrey propôs um novo restaurante de sushi, mas Mary não é fã de frutos do mar. Ela propôs, em vez disso, ir a um lugar italiano, mas Audrey comeu algumas massas ontem no jantar, então ela gostaria de algo diferente. Insegura sobre o que fazer, as duas meninas decidem olhar no jornal local para ver se há alguma promoção. Felizmente, havia uma promoção interessante. Estava mais caro que deveria. Quando Audrey perguntou ao garçom sobre a promoção do almoço gratuito, ele simplesmente respondeu: “não há tal coisa como almoço grátis”. Confuso, as duas colegas de trabalho pagaram o valor total da conta e saíram.

32. Casino

Vikas is really excited. Tonight, he is going to the casino with his wife Jenny. It’s the first time he is going there, but Jenny has been there a couple of times before. He can already picture himself winning thousands of dollars. He knows already what he would do with all that money. He would go for a trip in Jamaica. When he gets to the casino, he is starting to be confused. He is not sure to understand how it works. Where is he supposed to get the free coins to play? Jenny had to tell him that there was no free coins. He has to give money to get the coins and then only he could go play. Vikas thinks this is completely wrong. Why would he pay to win? He thought he could play for free. Jenny thinks this is a little funny. How can Vikas think such a thing? Of course, paying to win is the main idea of casinos. Embarrassed, Vikas decided to play anyway, but only with 20$.

32. Casino

Vikas está realmente animado. Hoje à noite, ele vai ao cassino com sua esposa Jenny. É a primeira vez que ele vai lá, mas Jenny esteve lá um par de tempo antes. Ele já pode se imaginar ganhando milhares de dólares. Ele já sabe o que faria com todo esse dinheiro. Ele iria para uma viagem na Jamaica. Quando ele chega ao cassino, ele está começando a ficar confuso. Ele não tem certeza para entender como funciona. Onde ele deveria pegar as moedas grátis para jogar? Jenny teve que lhe dizer que não havia moedas gratis. Ele tem que dar dinheiro para pegar as moedas e só então ele poderia ir jogar. Vikas acha que isso está completamente errado. Por que ele pagaria para ganhar? Ele pensou que poderia jogar de graça. Jenny acha isso um pouco engraçado. Como Vikas pode pensar tal coisa? Naturalmente, pagar para ganhar é a ideia principal dos casinos. Envergonhado, Vikas decidir jogar de qualquer maneira, mas apenas com 20 $.

33. A lifetime kind of experience

Melinda is a french native speaker, but she has always wanted to learn english. She has been trying to learn it for a couple of years now, but it’s not going well. She is thinking maybe she should go to an english country to learn it. When her two friends gives her a trip in Las Vegas for her birthday, she gets very excited. She is thinking maybe it is her chance to improve her english. She can’t believe her friends got her such a present, but she understands they have a lot of money. That night in Las Vegas though, she doesn’t really get the chance to practice her english, but she didn’t mind because she ended up having the time of her life. She played all night in the casinos, she went to some famous shows and she danced with strangers. It was a once in a lifetime kind of experience!

33. Experiência de uma vida inteira

Melinda é uma nativa falante francesa, mas ela sempre quis aprender inglês. Ela tem tentado aprender por um par de anos agora, mas não está indo bem. Ela está pensando que talvez ela deveria ir a um país inglês para aprender. Quando seus dois amigos lhe dá uma viagem em Las Vegas para seu aniversário, ela fica muito animada. Ela está pensando que talvez seja sua chance de melhorar seu inglês. Ela não consegue acreditar que seus amigos tenham conseguido tal presente, mas ela entende que eles têm muito dinheiro. Naquela noite em Las Vegas, porém, ela realmente não tem a chance de praticar seu inglês, mas ela não se importava porque ela acabou tendo a ocasião da sua vida. Jogou a noite inteira nos casinos, foi a alguns espetáculos famosos e dançou com estranhos. Foi uma experiencia de uma vida inteira!

34. The girl is gone

Erik has been living at the same apartment for five years now. He lives in a quiet neighborhood and he knows pretty much every one around, but there is one exception. He has never met the girl next door from him. After five years, he can’t believe he never had the chance to talk with her, never had the chance to see what she looks like. Basically, the only thing he knows is that she is a girl and she is a nurse. At least, that’s what his friend, other neighbor, told him. One day, he hears a loud noise coming from her place. Thinking she might be in danger, Erik spontaneously decides to knock on the girl’s next door. Unfortunately, no one is there. He knocks more and he tries to be loud. Still, no answer. Then suddenly, someone opens the door. It’s a man. Erik is confused. The man apologizes for the noises, he is moving in today and the furniture’s moving are making a lot of noise. Erik understands that this is his new neighbor and the girl is gone. He will never know who was the girl next door.

34. A menina se foi

Erik tem vivido no mesmo apartamento há cinco anos. Ele vive em um bairro tranquilo e ele conhece praticamente todo mundo, mas há uma exceção. Ele nunca encontrou a garota da casa ao lado dele. Depois de cinco anos, ele não pode acreditar que ele nunca teve a chance de conversar com ela, nunca teve a chance de ver como ela se parece. Basicamente, a única coisa que ele sabe é que ela é uma menina e ela é uma enfermeira. Pelo menos, foi o que seu amigo, outro vizinho, lhe contou. Um dia, ele ouve um barulho vindo de sua casa. Pensando que ela poderia estar em perigo, Erik espontaneamente decide bater na porta seguinte da garota. Infelizmente, ninguém está lá. Ele toca mais e ele tenta ficar com voz alta. Ainda assim, nenhuma resposta. De repente, alguém abre a porta. É um homem. Erik está confuso. O homem pede desculpas pelos ruídos, ele está se mudando hoje e os móveis em movimento estão fazendo muito barulho. Erik entende que este é seu novo vizinho e a garota se foi. Ele nunca saberá quem era a menina ao lado.

35. A poem for Suzanna

Miley is a good writer. In fact, she likes to write poems. She is only 11 years old, but she is surprisingly good. When one of her teachers ask her class to write a poem as one assignment, Miley is excited. She already knows what she will write about. She wants to write about her best friend: “My best friend’s name is Suzanna. Suzanna is always there for me, no matter if I am sad or happy. We both live on the same street so every Halloween, together, we scream trick or treat. She has a cat and his name is kit-kat. Suzanna is amazing and forever she will stay my best friend.” Miley’s teacher thinks her poem is cute, but this is not enough. Actually, she wants her to write about her favorite season. Unfortunately, Miley didn’t understand the task correctly. She decides to give her poem to Suzanna anyways and that makes her happy.

35. Um poema para Suzanna

Miley é uma boa escritora. Na verdade, ela gosta de escrever poemas. Ela tem apenas 11 anos, mas ela é surpreendentemente boa. Quando um de seus professores pede a sua turma para escrever um poema como uma atribuição, Miley está animada. Ela já sabe o que ela vai escrever sobre. Ela quer escrever sobre sua melhor amiga: “O nome da minha melhor amiga é Suzanna. Suzanna está sempre lá para mim, não importa se estou triste ou feliz. Suzanna é incrível e para sempre ela vai ficar minha melhor amiga “. A professora de Miley acha que seu poema é bonito, mas isso não é suficiente. Na verdade, ela quer que ela escreva sobre sua estação favorita. Infelizmente, Miley não entendeu a tarefa corretamente. Decidiu dar seu poema a Suzanna de qualquer maneira e isso a faz feliz.

36. The weather is pleasant

Today is Friday and the weather is pleasant. Mark thinks this is the perfect moment to go for a walk in the park. He decides to go with his dog and he also invites his sister. Both of them go to the park to enjoy the peaceful day. They walk around the trees for an hour. Then, they decide to sit down and to look at the view. From where they are, they can see the river. It looks beautiful but it is getting a little cold. They can also hear some birds. Many different species of birds are in the park, including blackbirds. Mark’s dog try to chase them, but all he does is scaring them which makes Mark frustrated. After their day, Mark and his sister go back to his house. They sit down on the balcony and think about the great day they just had. “That was an amazing day in the park” Mark says to his sister. She smiles and she agrees.

36. O clima é agradável

Hoje é sexta-feira e o tempo está agradável. Mark acha que este é o momento perfeito para passear no parque. Ele decide ir com seu cão e ele também convida sua irmã. Ambos vão ao parque para apreciar o dia calmo. Eles andam pelas árvores por uma hora. Então, eles decidem se sentar e olhar para a vista. De onde eles estão, eles podem ver o rio. Parece bonito, mas está ficando um pouco frio. Eles também podem ouvir alguns pássaros. Muitas espécies diferentes de aves estão no parque, incluindo tordos. O cão de Mark tenta persegui-los, mas tudo o que ele faz é assustá-los o que deixa Mark frustrado. Depois de seu dia, Marcos e sua irmã voltar para sua casa. Sentam-se na varanda e pensam no grande dia que acabaram de fazer. “Foi um dia maravilhoso no parque”, diz Mark à irmã. Ela sorri e ela concorda.

37. Horror movies

One of Gen’s favorite activity is to go to the movies. Whenever there is a new movie out, she tries to go. She never goes by herself though, she likes to go with some friends. Her favorite movies to watch in theatres are horror movies. Since the screen is bigger and the sounds are louder, she feels like she is taking part of the movies, which is a fun experience. Sometimes she screams and then she gets shy because she is not in her living room by herself, she is with a lot of strangers. She is thinking maybe she is disturbing them. No one ever said a bad comment to her though. Also, she likes when the movies are three-dimensional. The other day, she went to watch Star Wars in 3D. She loved it. She thought everything felt so real like if she was living the moment with the characters. Gen is always looking forward to go out to the movies.

37. Filmes de terror

Uma das atividades favoritas do Gen é ir ao cinema. Sempre que há um novo filme, ela tenta ir. Ela nunca vai sozinha, ela gosta de ir com alguns amigos. Seus filmes favoritos para assistir nos cinemas são filmes de terror. Uma vez que a tela é maior e os sons são mais altos, ela sente como ela estivesse participando dos filmes, que é uma experiência divertida. Às vezes ela grita e então fica tímida porque ela não está na sala dela sozinha, ela está com muitos estranhos. Ela está pensando que talvez esteja a perturbá-los. Embora ninguém nunca disse um mau comentário para ela. Além disso, ela gosta quando os filmes são tridimensionais. No outro dia, ela foi assistir Star Wars em 3D. Ela adorou. Ela pensou que tudo parecia tão real como se ela estivesse vivendo o momento com personagens. Gen está sempre ansiosa para sair para os cinema.

38. A funny war

Jackson loves to play with his cousins during the summer. Every year, all of his family goes to a cottage nearby a lake. All of his aunts, uncles and cousins come. Sometimes, they play games. Last year, they were always playing with baseball. This year, they are getting bored with that game. They are looking for a new game to entertain themselves. Jackson is thinking maybe they should do a water balloon war. Everyone agrees with the idea. They go to the store and they buy a couple of balloons with different shapes and colors. Then, they go back to the cottage and start filling them with water. The war didn’t last too long. Within 20 Minutes, all the balloons were gone, but they had some much fun. One of Jackson’s cousin threw a balloon at his mother. At first, she was mad, but then, everyone started to laugh. It was a really great day. Maybe they will do another water balloon war next year.

38. Uma guerra engraçada

Jackson adora brincar com seus primos durante o verão. Todos os anos, toda sua família vai para uma casa perto de um lago. Todas as suas tias, tios e primos vêm. Às vezes, eles jogam jogos. No ano passado, eles estavam sempre brincando com uma bola de beisebol. Este ano, eles estão ficando entediados com esse jogo. Eles estão procurando um novo jogo para se divertir. Jackson está pensando que talvez eles deviam fazer uma guerra de balões de água. Todos concordam com a ideia. Eles vão para a loja e compram um par de balões com diferentes formas e cores. Então, eles voltam para a casa e começam a enchê-los com água. A guerra não durou muito tempo. Dentro de 20 minutos, todos os balões foram embora, mas eles se divertiram muito. Um dos primos de Jackson jogou um balão em sua mãe. No início, ela estava louca, mas então, todos começaram a rir. Foi um grande dia. Talvez eles irão fazer outra guerra de balão de água no próximo ano.

39. The monitor

Kurt is still studying. He is doing a degree in social work. He has two more years before getting his diploma. Until then, he doesn’t really know what to do. During the year, he tries to stay concentrated on his studies only. He doesn’t work because he has too much things to study and too many assignments to complete. When summer comes, he gets a job, a summer job. Every year, it changes. Two years ago, he was a waiter at a restaurant. Last year, he was working in a supermarket. This summer, he is looking for something different. He is thinking of being a monitor in a camp for disabled children. He is thinking maybe this is going to be more related to what he is studying. He decides to apply for the job. Two days later, he gets a call for an interview. The interview goes well and the very same day, he gets the job. Kurt is really happy, this is going to be his best summer job so far.

39. O monitor

Kurt ainda está estudando. Ele está fazendo uma faculdade em serviço social. Ele tem mais dois anos antes de obter seu diploma. Até então, ele realmente não sabe o que fazer. Durante o ano, ele tenta permanecer concentrado em seus estudos apenas. Ele não trabalha porque tem muitas coisas para estudar e muitas tarefas para completar. 40. They want to break up

Janet and Nick are not doing well as a couple. They have been married for 10 years now, but things are starting to get complicated. The truth is, Janet cheated on Nick and Nick won’t forgive her. He asked for a divorce. The divorce is a huge storm for both of them, but also for their three children. With the help of two lawyers, they managed everything. Nick is going to keep the house, but Janet is going to keep the two cars. Also, the children are going to stay with Nick during the week and they will spend the weekends over Janet’s new house. This way, they won’t have to change school. Janet is devastated. She knows this is her fault, but she has a lot of regrets. She decides to go live in another city, far from Nick. This is a new fresh beginning for both of them. The divorce was difficult, but they got through it and somehow, they are proud of themselves.

40. Eles querem quebrar

Janet e Nick não estão indo bem como um casal. Eles estão casados há 10 anos, mas as coisas estão começando a ficar complicadas. A verdade é que Janet enganou Nick e Nick não a perdoará.
